Google Now Pointing Out Official Government Apps on Play Store and has add Symbol/badge as below against Government apps, the change lets users determine whether the government app they are viewing is authentic or not. On Google Play Store most Android devices is now getting a new feature that will indicate if an app is published by the government or not.
What Was Issue
In the last several years, multiple fake apps came over play store that mimic government-sponsored apps. User find it very difficult To recognize original Gov app, issue was very critical. Google says it has worked with 14 different governments worldwide to address this very problem, including the Government of India also.
It was global Issue hundreds of fake app that imitate to be government-sponsored apps and made their way into the Play Store within the past few years. Consumers was unknowingly might be sharing their private information in wrong hand it might be used with wrong intention. Now Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States and India bear the new badge.
Indian government-sponsored apps
In India the new badge is visible on all gov apps like mAdhaar, NextGen mParivahan, Voter Helpline, Digilocker and many more, you can check yourself over play store.
Just underneath the app name, users will see a new "Government" Symbol/badge when you tap on it to view the description of that app. a pop-up window will open with the statement "Play verified this app is affiliated with a government entity" will appear.
Additionally, Google stated that it frequently requests documentation from developers to confirm that they are authorized to handle and hold official government documents and that it encourages governments everywhere to register developer accounts using official email addresses.
